Week One - East Swanson Docks

The building that i decided to photograph was the straddle maintenance workshop which is located at East Swanson Docks. The Building is used for maintenance work, this needed to be taken into consideration when building the portal frame building to allow for a over head crane to be properly be supported.

This picture shows the overview of the building from outside.

This picture is of a building next door which is a typical light weight portal frame building.

This picture shows part of the over head crane as well as the general make up of the steel work.

This Detail Depicts the join between the rafter and the stanchion above a roller door.

This Detail shows the way that all the rafters meet the stanchion in one of the corners.

Jake,
I'm glad you read the reminder written on your hand before you washed it off. Good work. Your photos clearly show the basics of steel portal frames in an unusual building/ structure. Your last photo clearly shows why on-site welding is not a good solution to a construction problem. The comments you make are to the point & use the language of Construction & Structures. Well done.
